Rush University Internal Medicine - Professional Building

As a primary care practice with both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine physicians, Rush University Internal Medicine-Professional Building (RUIM-PB) has the unique ability to see patients of all ages, from neonates to the elderly.  Our team of dedicated physicians, nurses and medical assistants has extensive experience in managing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, from minor colds to serious heart disease.  We also put a large emphasis on disease prevention and health education, and work with our patients and their families to ensure a high level of overall well-being. Our physicians accept many insurance plans and are accepting new patients. We also offer a limited number of same-day appointments, and evening appointments on Wednesdays.

Michael A. Hanak, MD, grew up in a small town near Flint, Michigan, and attended college (gaining a minor in music therapy) and medical school at Michigan State University. Upon receiving his medical degree, Dr. Hanak  moved to Chicago to complete his Family Medicine residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He practiced for 3 years on the southwest side of Chicago before joining Rush in 2014.

As a board-certified family doctor, Dr. Hanak partners with his patients to improve their health and the well-being of their families. He strives to ensure patients feel comfortable and are in control of their health, and believes education and prevention are the keys to a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Hanak sees patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.  His special interests include diabetes, depression/anxiety, cardiovascular health, sexually transmitted diseases, and preventive medicine for children and adults.  In addition to his practice, he teaches both students and residents.  He is also the Chair Elect of the American Medical Association-Young Physicians Section, and sits on the board of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians.

His interests outside of medicine include music, travel, camping in northern Michigan, college sports, and spending time on the lake.

Johan O. Lane, MD, grew up in the Chicagoland area and received his medical degree from Rush University Medical College before completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado. After residency he practiced medicine in Colorado for 5 years before returning to Rush in 2013 to become the founding physician of RUIM-PB.

Dr. Lane is board certified in internal medicine, and he is excited about primary care because it gives him the ability to take a holistic view of the patient in understanding their overall health and well-being.  He is an expert at treating chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, and he specializes in providing preventive care including cancer and cardiovascular screening.  Dr. Lane enjoys working with patients on quitting tobacco, and developing plans for weight loss and physical fitness. For patients that also require a specialist, he assists in care coordination in an attempt to make a seamless transition.

Dr. Lane enjoys spending time with his family including two young sons, cycling and healthy cooking.
