Rush University Surgeons - Breast

Rush University Surgeons is a General Surgery practice with four specialty teams. These include GI Surgery, Breast, Colon-Rectal, and Surgical Oncology. Our teams of dedicated surgeons are supported by nurses, medical assistants, mid-level providers and administrative support staff who all work together to assure a premier patient experience.

Darius Francescatti, MD, is a General Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Rush University Medical Center. He specializes in Breast Care.  Dr. Francescatti completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center- General Vascular Surgery. His Clinical Expertise is in the following: Breast surgery, Cryosurgery, Ductal lavage , Ductoscopy  and Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided needle biopsy, breast. His research Interests include Ductal Lavage and ductoscopy in breast cancer risk assessment and Cryoablation of benign and malignant breast tumors. Dr. Francescatti is fluent in French, Italian and Spanish.​

Katherine Kopkash, MD, received her medical degree from Rush Medical College and went on to complete a residency in general surgery at Rush University Medical Center.  She completed a fellowship in breast oncoplastic surgery at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Kopkash is a board-certified general surgeon who specializes in breast oncoplastics, which means performing breast cancer surgeries in the most cosmetically pleasing way.  She is committed to ensuring her patients the best quality of life possible and provides this by performing lumpectomies using tissue-rearrangement techniques, sentinel lymph node biopsies, and nipple-sparing mastectomies.  Her research interests include intra-operative radiation therapy, clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients with a focus on quality of life, and surgical education.

Marci Lovett, RN, MN APN is a Nurse Practitioner whose specialty is Breast Care. Marci has worked in the Breast Field for 20 plus years. She received her BSN from Bradley University, in Illinois, and received her MN, APN as a Family Nurse Practitioner at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles. She helped develop the Comprehensive Breast Center at UCLA with Dr. Susan Love, and a mobile mammography program that served 5,000 women a year. Marci is committed to providing quality care and support for women and their families through the entire continuum of breast care from screening, diagnosis and treatment.​

Andrea Madrigrano, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has been at Rush Medical Center since 2007, and is an active member of the Coleman Foundation Comprehensive Breast Clinic at Rush.  She received her medical degree and completed her residency training in general surgery  from University of Illinois  at Chicago. She completed her fellowship training in breast surgery at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in California. Dr. Madrigrano focuses exclusively on breast diseases and breast surgery. Her areas of clinical expertise include:   Breast conservation surgery, skin sparing and nipple sparing mastectomies, oncoplastic surgery, breast cancer survivorship, and heredity and cancer.  Dr. Madrigrano believes in a personalized approached to cancer treatment and works closely with patients and families.


Thomas Witt, MD, is a General Surgeon that specializes in Breast Care. Which can include: Breast cancer, Breast conservation surgery, Breast diseases , Breast surgery, Cancer surgery, breast Mastectomy, skin-sparing, and Sentinel lymph node biopsy. Dr. Witt completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center and his Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center - Surgical Oncology. Dr. Witt's research interests include Breast Diseases and Breast Cancer.​

Norman Wool, MD, completed medical school at Chicago Medical School and his residency at Rush University Medical Center. He is board certified in Surgery with clinical expertise in breast cancer, breast cancer surgery, hiatal hernia, inguinal hernia, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and splenectomy. Additionally, he has research interests in venous access device infections and surgical education and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Surgery at Rush Medical College.
